Action Volunteer Alliance is a Canadian based Not-For-Profit Incorporation. We offer affordable volunteer experiences in Nepal. Our global volunteering programs are: working in an Orphanage to help care for under privileged children, teaching English in schools to a variety of ages, working in a health post in rural areas where most of the staff have little to no medical training, helping to clean up some of the worlds most beautiful land or working on different building projects which may be anything from repairing schools to building new homes. Volunteering abroad is a great way to get international experience in a field of interest while contributing to the global commuity. It also promotes and nurturs personal growth. You can learn a lot about yourself by helping others who are less fortunate. You will learn about another culture, religion and have the opportunity to learn a new language. You will also have the chance to see Nepal in a different light. To enlighten the world of the needs of developing countries, to create global partnerships to address these needs and make a positive difference to these communities.

I (Erin Kieffer – President & Founder of Action Volunteer Alliance) have always enjoyed travelling. My first experience was in Thailand which left me with an itch to see more. I was in Ireland in 2002 on a work visa when I had an accident. I fell off a horse and compressed a vertebra in my spine. I was put in a body cast and shipped home where I had about 6 months to lie on my back not moving, and think. I was 24 at the time so I took the opportunity to decide what I wanted to do with my life.

 

What I came up with is Developing Countries. I wanted to help. So I decided to go to Nepal and volunteer. What can I say? I loved it and was hooked right away. I came home and started to save up to go again, this time to Honduras.

 

During my volunteering I not only saw what an incredible difference volunteers are able to make but I found out what a difference it made in each of the volunteers lives. It is simply an amazing experience that leaves you with the most incredible, profound feelings.

 

I had become very close with my Host Family in Nepal and really wanted to do more. So, I spent a year doing research and paper work. We received our Incorporation March 1st 2007 and recieved our Registered Charitable Status December 4th 2008. As you can see in our Vision and Mission Statement’s, I believe the more people who interact with developing countries, the more we will accomplish. I believe everyone has something to offer so I recommend everyone apply, even if you think you don’t have much experience. This is a great place to start!

To relieve poverty in developing countries by sending volunteers to repair and make structural improvements to schools and orphanages and to assist orphans in their daily activities.

To advance education in developing countries by sending volunteers to teach English, assist local teachers and to provide students with uniforms, tuition and school supplies.

To preserve and protect the environment in developing countries by sending volunteers to operate garbage clean up programs.

To develop and promote public health in developing countries by sending volunteers to provide medical supplies and training materials to local  health posts.
